Labatt is also supporting the safe re-opening of restaurants and businesses as a corporate partner to roll out the POST Promise — a private sector-led program that allows business owners to sign a declaration to uphold five key steps to help prevent the spread — and through brand initiatives, including Stella Artois’ Rally for Restaurants gift-card program.
City of Montreal sets out a $22M plan with 20 impressive actions for its inclusive and green economic recovery: including nightlife, arts&culture, social economy, responsible purchasing, delivery services, street vibrancy, data, temp use of vacant space & more.
The plan is the result of major mobilization from Montréal’s business community and has three objectives:
- Stabilizing and supporting the economy, short term
- Reinventing the city’s economic development
- Mobilizing all partners for green and inclusive economic development

The City has implemented a number of initiatives to support local businesses and the community to reopen and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, including $575,000 in economic stimulus grants.

Transforming a Restaurant into an Outdoor Market using simple furniture designs
A restaurant in Dallas is coping with the pandemic by leveraging Better Block’s approach to adaptive urbanism. The Better Block crew had constructed several wooden market stalls that were going to be used for a pop-up outdoor market in the Allen project. Now, they’ve used them to turn Oddfellows into an actual outdoor market, stocking the shelves with the restaurant’s stock and selling neighbors staples that may be difficult to find at the stores that remain open.

Jusqu’en octobre, une équipe de professionnels prêtera main forte en effectuant des audits et des adaptations de santé pour les petites entreprises indépendantes afin de réduire les risques de propagation du COVID-19.

The Quebec government has developed a toolkit for reopening businesses safely
A generic prevention guide and interactive and printable quick references are offered for all work environments. A poster serving as a reminder of the preventive measures for workers’ health in the context of COVID‑19 is also available. The proposed measures must be adapted by the different sectors to their specific conditions to guarantee that operations can resume or continue under the safest and healthiest possible conditions. Special tools for certain economic sectors are also available.
‘Safe Return to Business: A Public Health Toolkit for the Windsor-Essex Business Community’ provides guidelines, best practices, and resources for businesses and workplaces in the WindsorEssex community
This toolkit will help businesses and workplaces incorporate pandemic planning and preparedness into reopening in a manner that prioritizes the health and safety of business owners, employees, customers, and the community. City of Cornwall: Business Reopening Toolkit
Cornwall Economic Development has developed an online Business Reopening Toolkit to help in this process.The Toolkit is a collection of resources that include a 6-page guidebook, and a number of posters, fact sheets and guidelines – including an easy to use calculator for determining the maximum number of people allowed in a store under current social distancing guidelines.

Design for Distancing is a Baltimore Development Corporation initiative to solicit creative ideas for businesses to reopen safely.
Three components to this initiative:
- What are smart ways for people to line up for carry-out, attend farmer’s markets, or wait outside of salons, laundromats, and banks? With social distancing in mind and using the best practices from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, share your innovative solutions
- Winning designs will be included in the Design For Distancing Guidebook, a free, shareable, online resource. Businesses, cities, and citizens around the world can all look here for inspiration on how to improve their own space.
- Over a dozen Baltimore City Districts will enjoy custom solutions pulled from the Guidebook. Design-build teams will be awarded a $10,000 design stipend to work with local main streets to implement plans in July. Winning designers may participate in the physical implementation, but are not required to do so

These posters are meant to be put up in downtown shops to communicate in a friendly way physical distancing rules, how many people allowed in a store at one time, and other changes that are in effect during COVID19 times.
Guide created to help reopening of small events and venues
The Reopening Guide addresses health and sanitary issues that event and venue professionals need to consider in order to protect both patrons and workers. Since there is still insufficient testing, no contact tracing, and no vaccine against COVID-19, this guidance is particularly detailed. The first edition is tailored to be especially useful for event professionals reopening the smallest events with the fewest resources available to mitigate their risks, since in every municipal reopening plan these will be allowed to reopen first.
City of Ottawa releases toolkit to help businesses reopen safely
Members of the Ottawa business community can access the toolkit online. It provides guidance on preparing your workplace, employees and operations to resume while ensuring physical distancing, and also provides links to official resources such as public health signage, sector-specific guidelines and government financial assistance programs. Information and resources will be updated regularly on the website as guidance from the Government of Ontario and Ottawa Public Health continues to evolve.
